One dish worth the drive to Abu Dhabi
Four days, 13 restaurants, 59 dishes later and I now know Abu Dhabi’s dining scene inside out. The highlight? One dish that’s worth the drive down that treacherous highway, or if you’re a resident or visitor to the capital, get down there pronto.
The dish in question is an Ossau-Iraty cheese soufflé at French restaurant, Brasserie Angélique in Jumeirah’s Etihad Towers. Ossau-Iraty is a firm yet supple ewe’s milk cheese that is PDA protected from France’s Pyrenees mountains. Cooked as a twice-baked soufflé, this dome perches rather precariously on a hidden bed of creamed spinach, whilst floating in a cheese fondue. With a distinct, slightly nutty flavour, this moreish dish goes down as one of the most memorable I have tasted in a long time, appealing to the cheesaholic in FooDiva. Soft, buttery and crumbly all in one. Served as a main course, it’s a very reasonably priced AED75. It also makes for a great sharing dish with some crusty French baguette for dunking, or even better pommes frites!
This Parisian-style restaurant has just won Gourmet Abu Dhabi’s Restaurant of the Year accolade, one of four categories I was judging with chef-cum-Instagram champion Faisal Naser and Suzanne Husseini, alongside public voting. I should clarify we were dining incognito and only now have the judges been revealed. Click here for all the winners, and here for a round-up from the chefs and judges (FooDiva included) on Dubai One TV.
Do you have a favourite dish ingrained in your memory and taste buds? Anyone spotted a similar dish in Dubai? I am testing out a different and much shorter format to my posts, so I’d welcome your thoughts as always :).
A bientôt!

This sounds like a must visit restaurant, when I am next in the UAE. Thanks for the tip
Abu Dhabi is really beginning to give Dubai a run for its money, restaurant-wise Ianto. So many new openings, and hence why I am starting to cover the capital 🙂
My kind of food…cheesy!!! It looks as if Abu Dhabi is going forward as far as food/restaurants is concerned. Dubai though will always be my favourite city.
